CBOE Files for Staked Ether ETF on Behalf of 21Shares
On Feb. 12, the Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE) filed on behalf of asset manager 21Shares to list a spot staked Ethereum ETF called the '21Shares CORE Ethereum ETF'. This product, previously named ARK 21Shares Ethereum ETF, aims to allow staking of the ETF’s Ethereum holdings. Bloomberg ETF analyst James Seyffart noted that this might be the first ETF to file with the SEC requesting the ability to permit staking, with a final deadline for the filing expected around the end of October.
Unichain Addresses Ethereum’s Scalability Issues with Optimistic Roll-ups
Ethereum’s scalability challenges have been a major hurdle for the blockchain, preventing it from competing with faster networks like Solana. However, the launch of Unichain, which incorporates Optimism’s optimistic roll-ups, aims to solve these issues and deliver speedier, more efficient transactions. This development could potentially have a significant impact on Ethereum’s future and its ability to handle increased demand.
Cboe Submits Proposal to Add Staking Capabilities to 21Shares ETH ETF
The Cboe BZX Exchange has proposed a rule change to the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to allow staking within the 21Shares Core Ethereum (ETH) ETF. This move could potentially introduce the first Ethereum ETF in the US that features staking, where the ETF's trust will lock up its Ethereum to secure the blockchain and earn staking rewards. The proposal is significant as it addresses regulatory concerns over securities classification and the complexities of managing staking within regulated frameworks, which have previously prevented US ETH ETFs from staking. If approved, the ETF could offer investors additional yield, narrowing the gap between direct ETH ownership and an ETF structure.
